About Us

Duende is Perth’s first and original Spanish tapas bar.

Since opening in 2003 it has continued to provide a unique culinary experience dedicated to the Spanish tapas culture with this experienced in warm, rustic surrounds.

We are positioned on the fringe of vibrant Leederville in a location that could easily leave one wondering if they were in Barcelona, Seville or San Sebastian.

Duende essentially means ‘having soul’, a feeling that is experienced with each and every visit.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week, Duende is the perfect location at any time of the day for that casual coffee catch-up, an important business meeting or a group gathering of family or friends to celebrate… well, anything.

Our wine bar opens from midday with an extensive offer of local and imported wines, beers and killer cocktails.

The team at Duende look forward to seeing you soon, whether for a first time visit or returning to us again.

Duende’s open kitchen is a focal point in the restaurant delivering a sumptuous array of authentic Spanish tapas dishes. Only fresh, local, organic produce is used in crafting our dishes.

Tapas is all about sharing with all tastes covered through the extensive selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. And if help is required our team are always on hand to advise and make recommendations.

Don’t miss the tasty chorizo straight off the grill, the popular prawn & chorizo paella balls with paprika alioli, the slow cooked pork belly or mushrooms in PX vinegar with valdeon and candied walnuts.

Dessert is well catered for and includes the ever popular doughnut balls and condensed milk ice cream, the perfect finish to a meal.

The queso (cheese) selection is regularly varied to maintain the most interesting cross section of unique flavours.

The ultimate tapas experience comes with the degustation menu available for all groups over six. This menu represents great value with ten dishes including our signature dessert for just $60 per head.

The breakfast / brunch menu covers a selection of tapas dishes and also incorporates the usual ‘old school’ favourites.

Vegetarian and gluten free options are available across the day.

Duende’s wine list is a combination of quality imported wines, primarily with an Iberian focus, and a selection of hand-picked local West Australian and eastern states drops. Sommelier Aaron actively seeks unique wines to complement all aspects of our tapas menu.

Our own Duende label Tempranillo was judged as the trophy winner for its class at both the 2014 Perth Royal Wine Show and 2014 National Wine Show of Australia.

Sangria is made fresh daily with the freshest of locally sourced fruits and our range of beers includes some great Spanish favourites along with a selection of locally brewed specialty styles.

If it’s cocktails that take your fancy our inspired and talented team behind the bar are constantly developing new and exciting concoctions. Gin lovers will be delighted with our list and the sherry offer covers the full gamut from dry white to sweet dark and everything in between.

Juices are cold pressed in the Swan Valley from locally grown produce and delivered the same day. That’s fresh.

For coffee lovers, our Duende label specialty blend coffee is locally roasted on a small batch basis and served throughout the day by our skilled baristas.

Our Team

The Duende management team are dedicated to making every customer’s visit memorable. To find out a little more about them just click on to their mug shot.

Why hospitality? Just love the opportunity to be that bit different, if you dare! If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? A good, aged, well rounded red I think. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? All the great people, our customers and our team. Get them together and we have a load of fun with plenty of happy souls.

Why hospitality? By the time I realised there were other options, it was too late, I was in for life If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? The first drink, cos that’s usually the least memorable one. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? The croquetas… mmmm croquetas.

Why hospitality? Ah hospitality, you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. I love people and this gives you the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? A vodka martini! A little touch of class, very versatile (shaken or stirred) and can be quite intoxicating (after a few). What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? The people we have to make our team, the concept, the atmosphere, the food, the wine and the soul of the place. Put together it’s the vibe of Duende.

Why hospitality? The love of food, booze and people, definitely not cos of the hours. If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? Champagne, bubbly and always around for the good times. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? The team and atmosphere we create for others to enjoy.

Why hospitality? More like why not? Best decision I ever made. If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? Whatever you want me to be because I’m versatile. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? Our owners have created a family environment behind the scenes. They really get it and then there’s also my best mates who I get to work with every day.

Why hospitality? That’s what I have been doing for the last 5+ years and I still enjoy it so much. If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? Negroni (you’ll understand if you meet me). What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? Stocktake!!! Hah, but mostly working with nice people.

Why hospitality? Because I failed my law degree… Hah, but seriously, the food, the booze and the people. Why NOT hospitality? If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? A happily, stereotypical British Pimm’s Cup. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? Our excellent charity toilet paper!

Why hospitality? Eating releases endorphins in the same way as exercising and laughing. Why wouldn’t you want to give people pleasure and relieves stress? It’s hard work at times but pays off with that positive connection to your customers. If you had to describe yourself as a drink, what would it be and why? Anyone who knows me well would agree when I say Jameson Irish Whiskey…in any form! What do you enjoy most about being a part of Duende? I love how creativity is constantly encouraged. Great tasty, daily specials and the wine and cocktail list is under constant revision to keep you coming back for more. There’s always something to be learned or taught.

Come in & meet the rest of our great team!

                  March Sherry Lunches

If there were justice in the world of wine, which there is not,
this national tipple of Spain may indeed garner
the same prestige as the finest Champagne Houses.
Whilst there are often parallels drawn between Sherry and Champagne,
(perhaps the two wines considered one subject viewed through
                  different ends of the binoculars)
Andalusia’s proudest wine remains misunderstood, under-appreciated and long forgotten. At Duende we’re bringin’ this baby back, showcasing its diversity, complexity and downright sexiness.
10 sherries across 8 shared plates for lunch from 1pm-4pm
                  Saturday 14th March $90

Running of the Bulls Week 6th- 12th July

Great News – Pamplona and Duende are both hosting this event for 2015. We’d suggest we will be the safer of the two locations.

Our menu for the week will feature many of the traditional dishes that you would find in Espana at this time.

For those who want to experience the thrill of the run itself, this will be held on Tuesday 7th to align with Pamplona. Ours is a night time run so your dinner will be briefly interrupted by the mayhem that is, the Running of the Bulls.
